A New Narrative
Jessica sat back in her computer chair, and Renee leaned forward toward the computer screen.
"Jessica, you totally created a new one! And you could fit it seamlessly into the broader narrative. If they don't come back, I think you have a real banger story here. There's got to be about five books' worth of stuff here. This is great." Renee sounded pleased. It was a new world she could hang out in for a long while.
"Yup, it's a doozy. And this time it didn't take very long. Several hours versus several weeks," replied Jessica. "I also noticed it didn't take so much energy. It includes world-view, main characters, a couple of side plots, a macro and micro scope, science versus magic, and a deep philosophical and psychological viewpoint not often included in modern storytelling. If I was good 12 years ago, I'm a narrative god now." Jessica laughed. She didn't really believe that she was a god or had magic powers, but the story came so easily this time, it did FEEL that way. A snap of the fingers and -poof- a whole new world appeared on the page. "Renee, I really actually can create multiple narratives a year doing this. I might see burnout, but it's easily repaired with some downtime. If I pace myself and carry my recorder, I should be fine."
"You just need to have fun, that's all. Look at everything you did simply for the kicks of it. That is what we are looking for," said Renee. Jessica was sure if Renee could pat her on the back, she would. At this point in the new narrative, it was now Renee's job to go live there for a bit to test out the rules and mechanics of the universe. "I'm sorry Loki can't come, too. He was always such fun."
"Nope, not this time, I'm afraid. He's still out there weaving." Jessica chuckled. "He did get his throne, though."
"Terrible trade-off! I wouldn't want the throne if it came with all that responsibility. I'm glad we aren't real gods or angels, or whatever else."
"Ah, I don't know. Being human has its terrible trade-offs. I think the measurement system we have doesn't measure that level appropriately," said Jessica.
"I can concede that. Humans and their shadows are limited in existential ways." Renee cocked her head. "The redefined cosmos we live in, doesn't quite pair well with any standards, does it?"
"No," replied Jessica. "We have us. Thats it. I have walked away from any hope of reaching colnnection with others. It simply wasn't fated. But maybe it was for the best. We introduced a lot of new seeds. Maybe there is another destiny that awaits us elsewhere that doesn't include humans at all. Who is to say otherwise? I'm ready to lean into the dark places. Its more fun there and I don't have to try to fit in or have the compullsion to be human on thier measurements. While I do see things improving in wierd and wild ways, I also see them moving into a direction that doesn't include me at all. They took my ball and are trying to invdnt new games with it."
"Failing to meet you where you need them so they wander off to start a new game that doesn't need starting," said Renee. "That sounds more human than anything else." She laughed. "They won't get far."
"I appreciate your empathy and support, Shadow-Sister."
"Thats what I'm here for," said Renee as she faded out. "Now go do something esle!"
"Like what?" asked Jessica. There was no repsonse. Jessica shrugged. She turned toward the computer and went to an impossible parallel world in which the Pirates of One Peice were temporarily accepted into Hogwarts. See below.
